Menstrual Hygiene Awareness

In many rural homes, menstruation is still spoken about in whispers—if at all. Young girls grow up confused, often frightened by their first experience, guided more by myths than by facts. A piece of cloth passed quietly, restrictions imposed without explanation, and a silence that teaches them that something natural must be hidden.

At Manthan Foundation, we step into these spaces with one simple intention—to replace fear with understanding, and silence with conversation.

Our sessions begin not with lectures, but with listening. We sit with women and young girls, hear their stories, their hesitations, their questions they’ve never been able to ask. Slowly, the room changes. What begins as discomfort turns into curiosity, and then into confidence.

We talk about menstruation as it truly is—a natural biological process. We explain hygiene, safe practices, and health in a way that is simple, relatable, and respectful of their lived realities. More importantly, we create a space where girls can speak openly, laugh, ask questions, and realize they are not alone.

Over time, something powerful happens. A girl who once sat quietly at the back begins to speak. A mother who once believed in age-old taboos starts questioning them. Conversations move from the session into homes, schools, and communities.

Because this work is not just about hygiene—it is about dignity. It is about ensuring that no girl feels shame for something so natural. It is about giving her the confidence to walk into school, into society, and into her future without hesitation.

Through every conversation, every story shared, and every barrier broken, we move one step closer to a world where menstruation is understood, accepted, and respected—for what it truly is: a part of life.
