Munni Begam

Grassroot Leader

Munni Begam stands as a remarkable example of resilience and grassroots leadership at Manthan Foundation in Jaunpur. A first-generation literate in her family, Munni’s journey began under challenging circumstances as a child bride. Yet, her determination to learn never faded. She started by learning the alphabet from children around her, gradually building the courage to pursue formal education. Even after becoming a mother, she did not pause—she appeared for her Class 10 examinations. She went on to complete her post-graduation, at one point even appearing for exams alongside her own son.

Today, Munni leads awareness sessions in five villages, working closely with volunteers to raise awareness of menstrual health and nutrition. Her journey with Manthan Foundation has further empowered her with digital skills—she is now confident in using platforms like Google Meet and tools such as MS Office, enabling her to connect, organise, and lead effectively. From overcoming personal barriers to becoming a voice of change in her community, Munni’s story reflects the transformative power of education, persistence, and purpose.
